A's vs. Tigers, Game 2

I'm watching the game delayed by about a half hour. It's the bottom of the 9th. Two outs. Bases loaded. The A's are down by 3. The Big Hurt at the plate. Oakland lost last night so they really need to win tonight and they need to score right now to have any chance to do it.

Strike one. 0-1.
Ball in the dirt. 1-1.
Man, things are getting tense. The crowd has its towels a-waving.

Damn. Fly ball to center. Three outs. Tigers win.

Well, that was a downer. Frank hasn't had a hit in either game in this series. Just an inch and it would've been a grand slam and an A's win. He just missed that pitch. The Tigers' pitching has been really impressive so far. Last night the A's looked completely ineffective, especially when they had guys on base.

Looks like 'geek might have been right when he said the Tigers in 5 and that the A's would be lucky to win that one. It sure would be cool to see Detroit clinch at home. Can you imagine the celebration?

  1. I'll tell you I was getting very nervous when Jones came in and started giving it up. When he let Preston get on I thought we were at least going to extra innings and that the A's would probably pull it out. When Bradley just hit that weak one up the middle I was less worried since the Big Hurt has struggled so much against the Tigers this year and especially in this series. Can you believe Alexis Gomez?? Leyland seems to have the mojo working this post season. I was thinking he should have switched Kenny Rogers and Verlander because of Kenny's success and confidence in Oakland but it will be nice to see him get some more love from the fans in Detroit.

I feel so bad for Sean Casey and especially for Chris Shelton. I adn't realized that they didn't have him on the post season roster. I hope that doesn't come back to bite us.

  2. Who the heck is Alexis Gomez? It's so great in the post-season when no-names can affect so much. It's not always the big stars that make or break a game or a series.

    Go A's!!!

  3. Gomez has been up and down with the club all year. There was a lot of speculation during Spring Training that he may be on the opening day roster. I am glad to see him get a chance now, he has a lot of upside. They were talking about how he hits a lot of home runs during BP. Leyland said that since the game was earlier (about when they normally do BP) that maybe Gomez would hit one during the game. MOJO!
