Tigers Win the Pennant!
Wow. Could it have been any better in Detroit today? To advance to the World Series on a home run in the bottom of the ninth at home? A different hero every night, it was Mags smacking his second big fly out to left field with two guys on and the game tied up at 3. Ah, there's nothing better than the scrum bouncing at home plate waiting to pummel the hero.
I thought the A's had a chance today, especially after loading them up in the eighth. They just didn't have the bats to compete in this series. And I'm not sure what Macha was doing having Huston Street face so many batters today. Bringing him in in the 7th?
So who will face the Tigers? I'm definitely rooting for the Cardinals. Just so I can maybe see Jeff Weaver pitch again.
it was an amazing night in detroit! i've never hugged so many strangers in my life! we felt like macha had to bring street in when he did, but weren't sure why he left him in so long. after the past few games, who woulda thunk maggs would come out so strong? go get 'em tigers!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were there to experience that. It must've been great. Will you be going to any of the WS games?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you got to be there to see that! I saw your dad yesterday. I didn't get to watch the game because we went out to visit Ty for a while then I took the kids to the Griffins home opener. The Griffs lost a one goal lead with 5:12 to play then gave up the game winner with 2.2 seconds left. A tripping penalty got called on the Griffs with 10 seconds left during a scrum in the corner (hello?, very lame). The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights got a two on one break off the face-off and beat the goalie high to bring everyone down after the high of them showing Magg's homer on the big screen. Go Blue!!! Go Tig's!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, the Huston Street thing... I think Macha was going with the theory that there's no tomorrow and you pitch your best pitcher and if he gets beat then at least you gave yourself the best chance to win. Of course, Street isn't exactly used to pitching 2+ innings, I don't think, so may have been tiring by the last of the ninth. Hard to say....
ReplyDeleteI forgot you were going to the season opener. It sounds exciting, though not the best result for the Griffs. I can't believe they called a penalty with 10 seconds to go. Hey, do they still have the wide lines on the ice?
ReplyDeleteIt was too bad that the Duke wasn't available. Street's just not the guy to pitch so many innings. Did you see that the A's fired Macha? So both Bay Area teams are looking for new managers this off-season.
we're going to game 1 and depending on how they do at the away games, we'll go to game 6 or 7 or both!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe they fired Macha. I thought he did a pretty good job, especially considering all the injuries the A's had to deal with this year. Getting to the ALCS is nothing to sneeze at.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could go with you to the game(s). I promised the boy that I would let him stay up and watch at least one of the games so it looks like it will be Game 1 that he gets to watch since it is the only one that isn't on a school night. (Notice that I am assuming that Game 6 will not be necessary) I am predicting the Tigers win in 4 or 5. I haven't looked at the Cards and/or the Mets very closely to see what the matchups will be like but the Mets won an awful lot of games this year and were on a serious roll for a while. The Cards late season collapse and still moving on in the playoffs parallels the Tigers to make a nice Series story.
